Overview

The CCell concept is an oscillating wave surge converter (OWSC) designed to maximise energy extraction through curvature of the device’s paddle. The curved structure improves the hydrodynamic performance, extracting more energy from each wave, and provides additional strength that reduces the amount of material used in its construction.

Scaled physical model tests of the CCell paddle and its control system demonstrated a four-fold increase in performance-to-cost ratio compared to other flap-based WECs.
