Overview
Wave Energy Scotland's second Annual Conference took place on Tuesday 28th November 2017 at the John MacIntyre Building in Edinburgh. With the recently awarded Control Systems Stage 1 contracts, there were 35 projects in the WES programme at this time.
During the one day conference, participants in the Power Take-Off (PTO), Novel Wave Energy Converter (NWEC) and Structural Materials and Manufacturing Processes (SMMP) programmes each gave a short presentation to update attendees on their progress during the previous year. In addition to this, WES gave an update on the overall programme, and there were a number of presentations to inform on other areas of research and opportunities across the wider sector.
The majority of the presentations that were given on the day are available to be downloaded. The documentation available include:
- WES Annual Conference 2017 agenda
- WES Programme summary and future plans
- Structural Materials and Manufacturing Processes project elevator pitches
- Power Take-Off project elevator pitches
- Novel Wave Energy Converter project elevator pitches
- Control Systems project posters
- Energy Technology Partnership and SuperGen Flex-fund update
- Interactive session
- International overview

WES Programme Summary and Future Plans
November 2017
This presentation covers an update from WES on the progress of the overall programme and an introduction to the participants in each of the four development streams of Power Take-Off, Novel WEC, Structural Materials and Manufacturing Processes, and Control Systems. (David Langston)
In addition, there is also an overview of the planned strategic research projects (originally referred to as 'landscaping') which would take place during 2018, covering cost reduction in supporting infrastructure, very large scale generation, and alternative generation technologies. (Jonathan Hodges)
An overview was given on the Metrics development work in collaboration with a number of international partners. (Jillian Henderson)
An interactive session was held during the day allowing attendees provide feedback to WES on what they would like to see in the future. The introduction slides are shared here. (Elva Bannon)
